Abstract
Our lead article, Joey La Neve DeFrancesco’s “Aaron Briggs: The True Fight for Freedom in the Gaspee Affair,” is a compelling entry into the world of Revolutionary Rhode Island. Aaron Briggs was a young man enslaved on Prudence Island at the time of the Gaspee Affair in 1773 when prominent R I citizens attacked a British revenue cutter off Warwick Aaron Briggs became a well-known figure in the Affair after he left his enslaver’s employ and sought freedom aboard a British ship in Narragansett Bay.
