Abstract
In this article, Millar discusses the musicians of colonial Newport. Music is a surprisingly little-known side of early American culture. Many people assume that since Handel and Mozart never came here no other composers of any worth did either. In fact, there were scores of composers resident in eighteenth-century America. More prominent Newport musicians and their histories are discussed here.
