Abstract
Off the coast of Newport lies Rose Island, an often forgotten and thought to be an abandoned ammunition dump since World War II. However, the island has seen a rich history as a key defense position in Narragansett Bay. Along with her research on the history of the island, Charlotte E. Johnson’s article mentions Fort Hamilton, located on the island, is thought to be the nation’s least altered first system fort.
