Abstract
Proper street lighting in cities had always been an issue. First implemented by Baltimore and soon followed suit by Newport, kerosene lamps fueled by the city-wide gas works solved the issue effectively. Ralph E. Brierley shares a personal story from his time lighting these city lamps in 1912.
