Abstract
The Newport Country Club, though relatively small in size, gained national influence. One of the earliest golfing clubs in the country, the club would later host the first Amateur and Open Championships in American golf. Presidents, kings, and other influential figures would also end up tee up with the club. Alan Shumacher discusses the history, as well as the club’s influence in his article “The Newport Country Club: Its Curious History”.
