Abstract
This article details the relationship between whaler John Deblois and his wife, Henrietta. John, a native to Newport, began his career at seventeen years old, meaning his letters often include spelling mistakes, yet the meaning behind them does not get lost. Henrietta, a quintessential Victorian lady, commanded life at home while her husband was away. These letters offer an insight on a boundless love kept together by their correspondence.
