Abstract
This article focuses on the Newport militia’s response to Captain James Wallace’s attack on Newport during the American Revolution. Narragansett Bay was a prime target for the British, since it was the second largest port city in New England. As the population of Newport dwindled as the British invasion raged on, the Newport militia faced seemingly impossible odds.
