Abstract
This article traces the brief, but noteworthy, presence of that institution in Newport during the Civil War. Mr. Nicolosi shares the belief of many Newporters of that period that the withdrawal of the Academy from the city was primarily political, and overlooked the advantages of Narragansett Bay over the Chesapeake for such an institution. Anthony Nicolosi, the author of the feature article in this issue, has established himself as one of the leading authorities on the Navy in Newport and of the Naval War College in particular.
