Abstract

In 1874, the young architect Charles Follen McKim (1847-1909) participated in the compilation of a series of 29 photographs of Newport houses, architectural details, furniture, and landscapes. Although never published as a set, they were sent, either as a gift or by subscription, to some of the most influential men in the world of art, letters, and architecture in the late 19th century. The Newport Historical Society owns several sets of these images, donated by McKim's first wife Annie Bigelow, his daughter Margaret McKim Maloney, the estate of Richard Morris Hunt (1827- 1895), and others.
