Abstract
This overview of vanished Newport villas is not intended as a comprehensive survey; local archives lack photographic images for at least a dozen more significant demolished estates. As it stands, however, this overview might serve to answer general questions as to what stood on sites now totally transformed in character. Although the architectural losses to the Old Beach Road, Rhode Island Avenue, and lower Bellevue Avenue cottage districts are considerable, as seen in an earlier installment of Lost Newport, such losses become more poignant as one travels further south along Bellevue Avenue into a neighborhood that had long retained its original estate character.
