Abstract
Abby Chandler is Associate Professor of Early American History at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Her first book, Law and Sexual Misconduct in New England, 1650-1750: Steering Toward England, was published by Routledge in 2015. Her second book project examines political rebellions from the 1760s in Rhode Island and North Carolina, and this article draws from that research.
