Back of photograph: Property of R. Jenk. Bishop Keough is here pictured in a reception room of Salve Regina College for women in Newport following a pontifical Mass marking the opening of the first Catholic laywoman's college in the diocese. The property housing the college was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Goelet who are also in the picture. The Nun is Mother Mary Matthew, R.S.M. Provincial of the Order of the Sisters of Mercy who operate the college. Mother Mary Matthew is also president of the college.
The opening of Salve Regina College was celebrated on Mercy Day, September 24, 1947.
