Abstract

Sister Marypat Murphy RSM, Salve ’62 and Board of Trustees member, recalls her experience at Salve and decision to join the Sisters of Mercy. She discusses her time teaching in parish schools after graduation and later work in the Diocese of Providence's education office for 18 years before becoming the Treasurer and Director of Finance for the Sisters of Mercy for 22 years. In 1986, she joined the Salve Regina Board of Trustees, participating in the University's governance and supporting its mission. She discusses significant changes at Salve, including its growth in facilities and the shift from a largely Sister-led faculty to a more diverse staff. She expresses admiration for the University's progress and the visionary leadership that has shaped its development, particularly under various presidents. She also recounts her involvement in acquiring updates for the University Chapel, highlighting the collaborative efforts that made it possible. She concludes by reflecting on the impressive transformation of Salve Regina over the decades, emphasizing its bright future.
