Abstract

In the ever evolving world of global architectural conservation, this thesis seeks to analyze the inherent conflicts between Eastern and Western conservation practice. The overarching theme calls conservation professionals to participate in a process of shared resource management. This process of shared cultural stewardship manifests itself elegantly in three spirit buildings: the Ise Shrine, located in Japan, the Golden Temple, located in India, and the Hinemihi Meetinghouse, now located in England.
